Im Freihof residential quarter in Goeppingen-Faurndau. A lively living environment for all generations.
The task in this competition included the design of a residential quarter with heterogeneous forms of use and open space design. As a special feature, the location of the site and the historical references had to be taken into account.
Project dataThe area is fitted in by a village development with a frequented infrastructure. The location on the slope as well as the historical references to the mill stream and the collegiate church required special attention. The heterogeneous use typology of the buildings is a significant component of the new residential quarter. The building forms include multi-story residential buildings as well as smaller units such as duplexes. Intergenerational housing forms are also an integral part of the building ensemble.
The typology of the buildings is modern in terms of materiality and finish. The semi-detached houses have a combination of wood and plaster facades. In their surroundings, areas for urban gardening are provided. The buildings of the up to three-story ensemble are planned with a restrained facade and floor-to-ceiling windows. The special buildings have a discreet urban appearance. This is created by a reduced materiality in concrete or wood in combination with wooden cladding. Flexible floor plans allow a good adaptation to the respective living situation. The motorized individual traffic is calmed by underground garages.
The new quarter should be perceived as a complement to the surrounding buildings. Thus, the buildings react sensitively to the urban situation. A café and a hairdresser are also located in the quarter. Overall, the public space, the urban grain and the building types are designed to create a lively neighborhood through visual relationships and communal uses. The ecological quality is expressed through the planned routing of paths and greening.
