Fire department and housing under one roof
Where others only see flashing blue lights and emergency vehicles, a place to live is being created. Our competition entry combines state-of-the-art emergency technology with comfortable living space - creating a building that not only offers safety, but also a home.
Project data
Urban integration
The new building blends harmoniously into the cityscape.
Despite its size, the building does not appear dominant. The height is based on the surrounding buildings, while the clear structure of the façade reinforces the urban order. The recess on the second floor creates depth in the street space and enlivens the view.
Architectural concept
Clear design language, functional structure.
The building is divided into a vehicle hall, administration, training, social rooms and living quarters. Setbacks, changes in material and transparency create a modern, inviting appearance. The training tower complements the ensemble as a discreet vertical element.

Short distances, logical processes.
The fire department areas are efficiently zoned: Vehicle hall with direct access to changing rooms, storage, workshops. Radio room with an overview of the hall and street. Administration, training and social rooms on the 2nd floor, living quarters above - spatially separated but structurally integrated.

Modular living concept with quality.
The rear exercise yard is shielded and functionally connected. Balconies, the large roof terrace with pergola and a terrace in front for the firefighters - facing south and with a view of the interior - create a pleasant atmosphere. Meeting zones in corridors, the central "Florianstüble" with terrace and separate rooms for the youth fire department promote social interaction. A common room and garden terrace on the residential floor will also create a meeting place for residents.
Conclusion
Modern. Functional. Future-oriented. The new Schorndorf fire station combines architectural clarity with social quality and operational-logistical precision. A building that is convincing in terms of urban planning - and functionally prepared for everything that is to come.
