Sternplatz in Geislingen. A neighborhood development with its finger on the pulse.
The owners' association of commercially zoned land in the heart of the small town commissioned an analysis and planning of an all-around redesigned neighborhood to revitalize an aging commercial site. The land was to be put to better use to design an attractive and forward-thinking place to live, work and recreate.
Project dataThe site analysis showed that the central, easily accessible location holds great potential for creating new public urban spaces with integrated green areas. New building structures have a representative effect and are identity-forming.
Identity for the urban space
The design concept envisages a fusion of public and private open space. Public space is created that offers great quality of stay for the citizenry. Private areas inside the building structure open up and extend the public open space. Green roof surfaces serve to retain precipitation and - in addition to visual aspects - have a positive effect on the microclimate of the area.
The buildings are mixed in terms of use. Residential, offices and commercial space for retail are planned, and sufficient parking spaces are planned in the basements. The multi-layered user groups will turn the piazza into a meeting place. The inner courtyard offers cozy areas for outdoor gastronomy and invites visitors to stroll around. Geislingen's inner city and the trade already located there will experience a revitalization.
The apartments on the upper floors have a special quality. Loggias and roof terraces create individual open spaces that offer a view of the Swabian Alb. Short distances to restaurants, shopping or even to the office reduce the CO2 pollution caused by individual traffic.
