The concept study envisages a mix of different uses in dense construction. Urgently needed living space will be created in the neighborhood and the possibility of locating jobs will be offered. Current developments in lifestyle models will be met and at the same time offer the opportunity to reduce commuter traffic. Living and working will move closer together.

Scale

In terms of design, the central neighborhood area takes up part of the existing buildings worthy of preservation and becomes the focal point. Existing structures are integrated. Buildings with somewhat larger volumes are conceivable in the central area: On the one hand for offices, on the other hand a kind of market hall and small, fine gastronomic offers can settle. Towards the Fils River, a multi-story structure is planned to form the end of the building and serve as an eye-catcher and marker for the southern border of the quarter.

Social mix and identity

The mix between urbanity, living and working on the waterfront, the proximity and relationship to rural structures and the excellent transport links make this location very attractive. Apartment buildings, the creation of affordable housing (social housing) but also offers for building groups in point houses, which promote a healthy mix of residents, are conceivable in a balanced relationship. Boldly, the design provides for some variability in floor levels. The possibility of families, best agers, singles, people with disabilities and many more coming together to form house communities and thus growing into a heterogeneous resident population is tangible and makes the neighborhood colorful. A new kindergarten is planned. At the nearby heart of the neighborhood, there are open spaces for lingering and as meeting places.

The neighborhood is openly designed and continuous. Paths and lines of sight are generous and offer space for greenery. Public, semi-public and private areas flow into one another. The Fils is connected and the quality of the waterfront location is emphasized. The bike path along the Fils can attract additional visitors through the gastronomic offer. As a transition to the rural area at the gates of Göppingen, the reference to village structures is thus established.

Sustainable aspects of planning and building have been incorporated into the entire concept to create a sustainable, largely CO2-neutral neighborhood. As a neighborhood of short distances, the use of a car in the direct vicinity will not be necessary. The goal is to construct buildings in wood or wood hybrid construction with passive house character. An energy center supplies the entire area. Lush, green inner courtyards and green corridors down to the Fils river without fences will promote biodiversity and use the Fils river for energy generation.
