Südstadt residential district in Goeppingen. Transformation into attractive urban living space.
The redevelopment of two buildings with a total of 48 residential units offered the opportunity to redefine urban living. The concept envisaged a modern and at the same time ecological residential quarter with affordable living space. The residents very much appreciate the togetherness in the additional meeting areas.
Project dataThe biggest challenge was to shield the buildings, which are located on a thoroughfare, from traffic noise. As sound insulation, a porch was created that accommodates both the stairwells and the central elevator. Bridge structures connect the portico and the main building. Access to the four levels, each with six apartments, is also ensured via this. The noise partitioning now allows the arrangement of main rooms on the formerly unattractive side of the building.
Balconies were installed on the rear side facing away from the street, and a green and vital courtyard was built. The removal of the staircases enabled a restructuring of the floor plans and created additional space for sanitary areas.
A conceptually strong solution for apartment, house and neighborhood as well as a far-sighted implementation of the comprehensive renovation concept.

New qualities are offered by the green atriums that have been created between the arcade and the building, ensuring openness and transparency in the building core. Parking traffic has been relocated to underground garages beneath the courtyards. Access is via the arcades in the basement.
