Vehicle hall for the Donzdorf volunteer fire department. Extension to the historic castle grounds with a forward-looking function.
The town of Donzdorf is expanding the fire station in the castle grounds by building a new vehicle hall in the Fohlenhof. The historic stables will be retained and gradually adapted to the modern requirements of the fire department.
Project data
The new vehicle hall expands the Donzdorf fire station in the historic Marstall building. The adaptation will take place in up to four construction phases. First, a free-standing vehicle hall will be built in the Fohlenhof. This will be followed by the conversion of the daycare center into storage and social rooms, the conversion of changing rooms in the stables and, in the long term, the renovation of the roof structure.
The new single-storey building offers three parking spaces with an exit to the north. It complements the existing Alarmhof and is set into the rising terrain. Parking spaces are no longer required, but will be replaced in the 2nd construction phase. There is a 2.50 m gap between the hall and the stables to extend Kastanienallee. Special fire protection requirements apply to the side of the building.

The hall is built as a timber construction on a truss base. A timber frame construction forms the outer walls. The exterior façade is rear-ventilated and insulated. The floor slab is coated, drainage is via a gutter. The monopitch roof made of wooden rafters is extensively greened.

A PV system with an east-west orientation will be installed on the roof. Heat is supplied via district heating, with radiant ceiling panels for heating. Compressed air and exhaust gas extraction are provided at all three parking spaces. The hall is only kept at a minimum temperature, as it is not used permanently.
