Cafeteria of the Hermann-Hesse-Realschule in Goeppingen. Modern and light-flooded extension.
A school canteen was indispensable for all-day care at the Hermann-Hesse-Realschule in Goeppingen . The necessary fire protection renovation of the existing building was used as an opportunity to realize the construction of a cafeteria.
Project dataA school canteen is essential for the provision of all-day care at a school. The new building, with its appropriate equipment and conceptual openness, combines various possible uses. In addition to lunchtime catering, the new premises are used for parties, provide space for after-school childcare, and offer opportunities for retreat.
The client designed the cafeteria as a two-story addition to the existing school building. The architecture of the building is characterized by simple elegance and simplicity. On both levels, floor-to-ceiling windows provide views of the park-like surroundings. This transparency has also been taken up on the inside, with window areas from the access corridors and bridges on the upper floor allowing views into the cafeteria.
On the first floor, students enter the canteen from the access corridor. The music room is located next to the cafeteria. This room is also suitable for other uses via a mobile partition wall. On the second level, three bridges provide access to further rooms. There are rooms for visual arts, projects, reading and quiet work, among others.
