Fire station in Roßwag. Concentrated voluntary work under one roof.
In this competition process, the desire of the community of Roßwag was to integrate additional premises for a wide range of community activities under the roof of a necessary new fire station. The building fulfills several functions for security and leisure activities.
Project dataIn terms of urban planning, an unobtrusive, simple structure is integrated that establishes a relationship to the surroundings. It adapts to the scale of its surroundings and its roof form refers to the roofs of the surrounding area. The gable roof is boldly reinterpreted. The monolithic building is designed in accordance with the design statutes with regard to the choice of materials. This is clearly designed to be typical for the location and allows for dignified aging. Under this approach, the design was developed as an interpretation of a historic barn building in a modern way.
In the new building, the functions are clearly arranged. The first floor is reserved for the fire department with the need for short distances. An important aspect is fulfilled: There are no crossing points in case of emergency. The processes take place separately from each other. The quality is shown by the correct arrangement of rooms and functions.
On the first floor above, there are training and utility rooms as well as a kitchen. The top floor offers sufficient space for practice and rehearsal rooms for the orchestra and other recreational activities of the community. The recreational areas there, with its sloping roof and a roof loggia, offer special qualities. Although it is a functional building, the design requirements are met. All floors are accessible barrier-free by an elevator. Natural building materials create a pleasant indoor climate and a particularly warm atmosphere.
