Fire station with crime prevention in Fellbach. The new brand on the edge of town creates connections.
The competition called for a design for a new fire station with a company apartment and areas for crime prevention to replace an existing fire station. This envisages a two-story, U-shaped structure that opens onto the access road.
Project dataExercise tower as a signpost
The new fire station building makes reference to the school opposite. The monolithic structure is surrounded by greenery and thus forms an appropriate environment to a possible neighboring development. As a marker, the exercise tower is visible from afar. The building concept is cleverly integrated into the topography, creating quality open spaces. The fire station area is connected to the access road via two points. The roof areas are greened and equipped with PV systems. Reinforced concrete ceilings are planned to be made of semi-precast elements. The exterior walls are to be made of solid-colored insulating concrete.
Consideration for the neighborhood
The building arrangement around the inner courtyard not only provides optimal functions for the fire department, but also creates optimal noise protection for the adjacent development areas to the north, east and south. The neighborhood will not be disturbed. The design provides for a clear separation of the alarm exit and access to the parking lots for firefighters and users* of the crime prevention. This will ensure a crossing and disturbance-free operation in case of alarm. The common entrance can be reached via a small forecourt directly from the visitor parking spaces and the bicycle parking spaces. An underground garage is accessed via the alarm parking lot. Generous exercise areas are provided. Due to the exposed location with direct landscape reference, the entire area will be intensively and generously greened with woody plants. In the south of the site, a small recreational and leisure area for camaraderie with a barbecue area and seating facilities will be created, which will also serve as compensation areas.
The building concept is cleverly integrated into the topography to create high-quality open spaces.

A main entrance provides access to the fire department and the prevention staff unit. On the first floor, a common foyer with integrated exhibition space leads to the administrative part of the fire department with a large training room and crisis team. On the upper floor are the rooms for crime prevention and the required additional apartment with roof terrace. The vehicle halls are arranged at an angle including the changing rooms, storage and workshops. The upper floor includes offices and recreation rooms with visual reference to the vehicle halls.
