Neckartal School in Heilbronn. Podium for a new togetherness.
The competition was divided into a design task for the realization part of the new Neckartal School. In the ideas section, solutions were to be developed for the outdoor areas and required schoolyard areas of both schools, the integration of a new, public playground, and the integration of a bicycle lane.
Project dataThe philosophy in the design supports the sequence of square - schools - sports - play along the inner boulevard with emphasis on the cafeteria building with adjacent neighborhood square. This allows the building units to operate well separated yet side by side and creates the necessary space as a podium for togetherness. The new school area is to be understood as a multifunctional open space and movement zone. The existing environment of the Grünewald School is strengthened and a new school area with the new building of the Neckartal School is added.
The new development should be designed for the future and show a sustainable effect. This is achieved on the one hand with the orientation to the sun, and on the other hand with environmentally friendly building materials and colors. Green roof surfaces provide an attractive appearance and good climatic conditions. Depressions in the open spaces serve for rainwater clarification or infiltration. In addition, the planning aims at a contemporary use of regenerative raw materials in the constructions, the use of materials and the integration of valuable trees.
Good open spaces offer compensation and encourage movement between the ordered learning structures and are sensory experience space. Thus, the ability to concentrate and creativity are promoted. In this sense, it is a matter of designating zones for "loud" and "quiet" that separate themselves in a natural way and bring together all functions as a unit. The schoolyards are oriented towards the morning sun and are at the same time multifunctionally usable stages. The surrounding greenery is programmable in a variety of ways with small art podiums and school gardens.
Place of learning for tomorrow
The buildings are intended to be more than an extension for additional classrooms and subject areas. They are intended to allow learning in a variety of ways. All areas benefit from offering direct connections to the outdoor spaces, thus increasing the quality of stay and the flexibility of the rooms. The clear distribution of uses and open connection between floors facilitates orientation in the building.
