Culture mill in Rechberghausen. Rehabilitation of a historic building ensemble.
A historic cultural site was renovated, energy-saving refurbished and made barrier-free. Thus, the striking ensemble received special attention as an exhibition venue at the Small Garden Show 2009 and is still used lively today.
Project dataIn addition to the energy upgrade, the focus was on creating accessibility: The Kulturmühle was to be accessible and usable for people of all ages with and without physical impairments. Since then, the Kulturmühle has been an established venue for art and culture and should remain so - barrier-free, energy-efficient and in a new appearance that combines history and modernity.
Interior reinterpretation
The conversion contrasts the old building fabric with new natural materials. The color scheme is dominated by warm and muted tones. The interior was completely redesigned, with small rooms on the first floor being combined to form a large foyer. Guests reach the upper rooms via open access using ramps and stairs. Views of lower levels and the roof space broaden the impressions in the building.
