Interested visitors on the Day of Architecture 2023

Experience architecture with all senses

The tour bus rolls into the fire department parking lot right on time. Immediately, the space in front of the building fills with an interested crowd gathered around architect Christian Gaus.

Touch and see architecture: Throughout Baden-Württemberg, the Chamber of Architects will be conducting bus tours to the most interesting current properties on Architecture Day 2023.

Interest from all strata of the population

In Tübingen and in Goeppingen , a fire department building from our office forms one station of the tour in each case. And it is not often that so many different sections of the population are encountered together in one place as on the various tours: architectural mediation for all generations. Because building culture concerns us all.

There is the student who is interested in contemporary regional architecture. There is the retired office clerk who had worked in an architectural office for over twenty years. There are whole families who experience a joint summer excursion with the tour.

Questions answered and satisfied faces

Christian Gaus gives a tour of the buildings together with some of the firefighters present and representatives of the cities as builders. He explains how the floor plan is based on the operational procedures of the volunteer fire departments, or why the vehicle hall has a height of two stories and not just one, as was common in the past. Why the hall in Lustnau can be accessed from two sides or why some building corners were rounded.

The visitor groups show interest. And when Gerrit Klaus, chairman of the chamber group Goeppingen and organizer of the tour in Goeppingen, inquires at the end whether everyone had had a good day, a satisfied and smiling nod goes through the whole round.
