Together for the next generation

The backdrop: A building pit. Little glitz and glamor.

Nevertheless, there was a sense of what is to be created here this lunchtime: A campus for children and young people, an area that will create new conditions, a place where children will play, learn, live and grow.

They say that there is a magic in every beginning. If that is true, then this magic was palpable. Together, local councillors, the mayor, school principals, specialist planners and the project team from our office performed the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony for the children's and youth campus in Remchingen.

New space for families

In addition to a canteen for up to 200 people a day, the campus is to include core daycare with 100 childcare places and a daycare center with around 75 places. For Julia Wieland, mayor of the community of 12,000 inhabitants, this is an important step in supporting families.

I hope that no couple in Remchingen will have to wonder whether they can find a childcare place for their child. This campus will create new conditions.

Investing in the future

Around 100 interested people filled the small gravel area at the edge of the excavation pit. There were the local councillors who had campaigned for the project in hour-long meetings. There are the families whose children were part of the student participation for the project. There is the pregnant woman who has just been relieved of the worry of whether she will find a childcare place for her offspring. And there is the elderly gentleman who has always lived in Remchingen and simply wants to know what is happening here.

For Christian Gaus, author of the design for the campus, the project symbolizes one thing above all: the future.

That's what it's all about: the future. Because the future is the children.

The future within reach

The "future", i.e. the children, know what the project means to them. And they accompany the special event with dancing and singing. "Keeping dreams alive - swimmin' in the floods, dancing on the clouds" from "I ain't worried 'bout it right now" is sung and is probably the best expression of the mood on this day:

Pure joy. A bit of magic. Almost a bit of glitz and glamor.

Because it becomes tangible that in just under two years' time, a new campus will stand in place of the excavation pit, where children will play, learn, live and grow.

In our project presentation, we show you what the campus will look like in two years' time and what makes the design so special
