The (long) night of architecture

A long night. This is how the evening event, which was held for the 11th time by the chamber group Goeppingen , was called several times - incorrectly; because it is actually only called "Night of Architecture". Long it became nevertheless. But definitely not too long.

Cities and spaces of tomorrow

The central part of the event was the keynotes by renowned architects: Oliver Seidel from Cityförster in Hanover and René Pier from Schienbein+Pier in Stuttgart.

The two points of view - first the bird's eye view of urban planning, then the precise detailed view of interior design - met in one specific and important point: architecture; the design of our cities and homes, the design of living, learning, working and recreational space can and must provide answers to the crises and challenges of our time.

The modern city as an ecosystem of community and sustainability

Urban planners can change the cityscape of the future through neighborhood planning that favors community over individualism. The creation of shareable outdoor and indoor spaces, as well as the possibility of tool or car sharing and shared gardening, are changing the way we use resources.

At the same time, as Oliver Seidel emphasizes, a modern city must not become a foreign body in the existing environment. A modern city is an ecosystem that must function sustainably and become part of nature rather than a fighter against it.

A new aesthetic of (interior) architecture

From the big picture deep into the details: Interior design can - and must - also find answers to current multiple crises, according to René Pier, an interior designer from Stuttgart whose office designs interiors worldwide.

When interior design is consistently sustainable(er), it means the development of a new aesthetic. Materials are not always available or their shape is to a certain extent predetermined because of sustainable production. The new aesthetic does not defend itself against these influences, but rather gains its radiance through them. It also engages with the existing in a way that does not deny it, but upholds it.

Topics for the future

The topics move the audience: This is shown by intensive conversations afterwards with piano music, good wine and hearty appetizers. And so the "Night of Architecture" becomes the "Long Night of Architecture.

"Long" also because the ideas expressed will certainly shine long into the future; because they will be taken along, reconsidered and implemented in the most diverse forms. And then, at the 12th Night of Architecture, perhaps the results can be discussed.
