Udo Gaus passed away peacefully yesterday, surrounded by his wife Karin and his brother Christian.

We were able to accompany him intensively on his last journey and say goodbye in the closest family circle.

Udo Gaus was a passionate architect. After studying at the University of Stuttgart under Prof. Peter Schenk, he entered the profession with great enthusiasm. But fate presented him with a major challenge early on: he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 16. He lived with the disease for 50 years - and bore it with remarkable strength, dignity and courage.

His dream of continuing his father Alois' architectural practice remained unfulfilled due to the progression of his illness. In the mid-1990s, he had to retire from professional life with a heavy heart.

However, Udo found a new calling: he worked tirelessly on behalf of other people with MS. He was active at district, state and national level and contributed his expertise, particularly in the field of barrier-free construction. His voice carried weight - even at a political level in Berlin.

In 2004, he found his great love and firm support in his wife Karin, who initially accompanied him as a carer. Their deep bond carried him through the challenges of everyday life - characterized by trust, care and shared strength.Despite all the setbacks, Udo remained a person full of hope, with an alert mind and an incomparable sparkle in his eyes. His attitude was admirable - positive, combative and always dedicated to the well-being of others.

With Udo, we are not only losing a part of our family, but also a person who taught us what it means to go through life with courage, clarity and compassion.

We will miss him very much.
