Wooden fire station: We are German Design Award Winner 2024!
Outstanding architecture
We are German Design Award Winner 2024!
Between the design glamor of Ambiente Messe 2024 and the who's who of the international industry, the presentation of the Design Awards was given a rousing setting.
The decisive factor in honoring the fire station was the aesthetically convincing and sustainable timber construction. The German Design Award is one of the most prestigious awards in the international design landscape and is regarded as the most renowned design prize in the German-speaking world.
Every building tells a story. The fire station in Lustnau shows how sustainable municipal architecture can work.

The international jury is impressed by the building made from regional, FSC-certified timber and sees it as "a strong statement for contemporary sustainable construction that is also aesthetically pleasing down to the last detail."
Worldwide recognition for good design
The German Design Council was founded in 1953 on the initiative of the German Bundestag and has a global presence. Its awards are regarded as an independent seal of quality of international standing for contemporary developments and design achievements.
With the German Design Award, we recognize outstanding and exemplary design achievements every year.

Sustainable building with charisma
The award-winning fire station Tübingen-Lustnau has already received the DMK Award for Sustainable Building and the Iconic Award Innovative Architecture in 2023. Within the first year of its inauguration, it received its third prestigious award, the German Design Award. The building also impresses with an energy concept based on renewable sources such as wood pellets and solar radiation.
A thoroughly sustainable building - and a fire station made of wood is not an everyday sight. But this is nothing new for Christian Gaus: "We built our first fire station out of wood back in 2005. Today, almost 20 years later, we design and build numerous fire station buildings far beyond the region and are invited to take part in architectural competitions for fire stations throughout Germany.
